Dr Teddy Ngu is a seasoned executive with over two decades of experience garnered across multiple continents. He is currently the Director, Corporate Affairs & Agric Business Initiatives for Africa at GBFoods. Prior to that, he ran the Strategy & Post Merger Integration Office for Africa & Middle East, also at GBFoods.
In his current role, Teddy oversaw the establishment of the largest integrated tomato farm and processing factory in West & Central Africa, in Kebbi State, Nigeria. His work in Kebbi included collaboration with GIZ, East-West Seeds and the Central Bank of Nigeria, to recruit and train over 5,000 small holder farmers to farm tomatoes for the first time.
He is responsible for driving GBFoods’ Agribusiness initiatives in Ghana, where he advises and co-develops suppliers, particularly players engaged in primary agric production to process products that become inputs in GBFoods manufacturing processes.
Prior to joining GBFoods Africa, Teddy served as the Group Head, Strategy & Corporate Development, Honeywell Group Nigeria. In this role, he streamlined and instilled a performance driven culture across all of Honeywell’s portfolio companies. During his tenure at Honeywell Group, Teddy was on the board of Honeywell Flour Mills Plc as well as its Investments Subcommittee. There, Teddy co-led Agribusiness projects in rice, cassava, and sorghum, as well as yam production and processing into flour.
He was also a key member of the industry team that advised the government on adjusting the cassava flour (inclusion into wheat flour) policy and the drafting of a sorghum flour inclusion policy. Working with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and USAID, he recruited and trained thousands of sorghum farmers on good agricultural practices to produce sorghum on over 15,000 hectares of land around Kano and Kaduna States in Nigeria.
Dr Ngu also served as a Director with PwC Nigeria, where he rebuilt their Strategy & Operations consulting practice across West Africa. Some of his key projects include developing the first strategic plan of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), co-leading the advisory consortium that set up AMCON and advising clients in manufacturing, healthcare, consumer goods, telecoms, private equity, and oil & gas.
He has helped raise over $100m, cumulatively, in soft loans from DFIs for manufacturing and agribusiness projects, served as a Management Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group’s New York Office, and as a Strategist in Corporate Development & Strategy with PepsiCo. Dr Teddy Ngu has executed projects in over thirty countries and counting.
Dr Ngu acquired his undergraduate and postgraduate education in Engineering from the UK, prior to training as an accountant. He then obtained an MBA from Wharton Business School on a William F. McKenney Scholarship. Prior to Wharton, Teddy worked with Ernst & Young UK, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England & Wales. He also worked with British Telecom’s Corporate Finance team, managing transactions with a cumulative value of approximately $10billion, across Asia, Europe, and North America.
